What We Love About the 1960s Section at Pop Century

60’s Play Doh Icon

Out of all the decades at Pop Century, the 1960s section is what comes to mind when we think about Pop.

We might have a special place in our heart for the 1950s, but the bright day-glo flowers and peace signs of the 1960s just scream “Pop Century” to us! (Maybe we’re really hippies and just don’t know it!)

Part of the draw of the 1960s section is that when you exit Classic Hall’s back doors the first thing you see is the Hippy Dippy Pool – the centerpiece of the section (and the hotel’s main pool). And the buildings in the 1960s section surround the pool with their larger-than-life icons and bright colors making you feel like you’re in the middle of the excitement that is Pop Century!

The icons of the 1960s buildings include giant Duncan Yo-Yos, huge cans of Play-Doh, Baloo and Mowgli from Disney’s The Jungle Book. The stairwells are just as “iconic” and our favorite has to be the Yo-Yo stairwell – especially at night. The buildings also feature over-sized “pop” words and phrases like “Far Out!” and “Flower Child.”

Staying in the 1960s section means a shorter walk to areas including Classic Hall – home to the Everything Pop gift shop and food court – in addition to the Petals Pool Bar, and the bus stop.

While the area might be a bit busier than other decades at the hotel, we love the colors and icons in this section and the proximity to the areas we frequent most: the pool and the food court.
